Mental Health Resilience Officer
This course prepares EMS personnel to serve as their agency’s Mental Health Resilience Officer. In this role, the MHRO will engage with peers to develop an understanding of mental health issues and resilience; identify peers who are experiencing mental health stressors and crises; navigate peers in need to the right services for help; and support the development of a culture of mental health resilience and emotional wellness within the agency.
Reducing the Stigma / Changing the Culture
In this course we will give you insight and tools, to effectively overcome the stigma within your agency and to begin the process of changing the culture.
Administrative Roles & Responsibilities
In depth look into the correct and incorrect ways to deal with a employee in crisis.
Change of Culture begins with the administration.
Breaking Bad News
If we are better prepared at delivering bad news in the right way this will prevent some exposure to unnecessary trauma. This Course provides an introduction to techniques that can assist EMS clinicians in delivering difficult news to patients’ families and to patients who may be seriously ill or injured. Participants will discuss the impact of breaking bad news, share professional experiences, and role play ways to deliver death notifications to loved ones and caregivers.
Burnout & Chronic Stress
The cumulative effects of daily stress, demanding work schedules, and organizational stressors can lead to burnout and impaired functioning. This course will address ways to aid in the prevention and mitigation of burnout. It will also show the differential between Eustress and Distress, and ways to improve them.
Substance Use & Addiction
Problematic alcohol and substance use is a significant concern, sometimes linked to coping mechanisms for stress, burnout, and pain. In this course we educate first responders with better alternatives for coping mechanisms rather than adding fuel to the fire that is already burning inside.
Vicarious (Secondary) Trauma To Our Family
This is often a forgotten part of the traua exposure to a first responder and by the time it is addressed so much damage is already done, sometimes beyond repair. In this course we will give you tools to navigate safely around the secondary exposure we can accidently cause to our families.
For The Family (Do's & Don'ts)
Yes you heard right, this course is aimed at your family. They are you primary support system and sometimes they will never understand what we are going through. Therefore this is a course to inform family members of how to manage and cope with what you may be bringing home, or why you are being who you are.
Suicidal Ideation, Suicide, Workplace Suicide...
A particularly alarming challenge is the elevated risk of suicide, with some statistics showing first responders are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty.
We will address definitions of each, symptoms, and resolutions. Suicide is never a Resolution, It just places more on others.
Depression & Anxiety Management
First responders show significantly higher rates of depression and anxiety compared to the general population. In this course we cover in depth, early symptoms, and navigating the hurdles around it. You will be provided with resources that will assist, and address any acute or chronic problems.
Why early recognition and treatment are important? What happens if left untreated?
